In 1894 the first Lander Pageant of the
Old West was held in the afternoon at the Farlow's rodeo ground
near Lander. Indians
put up teepees and set up camp. Pioneer families from all around
the region drove their wagons to Lander and camped near the rodeo
grounds to participate in the fun. From the mid 1890s until
1914 the Pioneer Days rodeos were held at the site where the new
Museum of the American West is at 1445 West Main Street, then it
was moved west to the current soccer fields near the Field House,
then in 1934 to the current site on the hill near the airport.
Join in the modern day fun by participating in the half-marathon,
starting at
7:00 a.m. Enjoy fresh hot pancakes being served from 7:00 a.m. – 9:30
a.m. at the Lander Senior Center located at 205 South 10th Street. Main
Street of Lander is brimming with people of all ages in anticipation of the annual
parade celebrating the 4th of July. Parade festivities begin at 10:00 in
the morning and continue throughout the day at our beautiful city park located
on Fremont Street (Parks and Recreation 332-4647).

Shoshone Days Queen - 2007

Float from the Pageant of the Old West Parade July 4, 2007
After partaking in the local Rotary Club’s Buffalo Barbeque, spend the
afternoon enjoying quality entertainment. The Scottish Highland Games have
become a part of this tradition, as well as the lure & mystic of our local
Lander Valley Pipers. For three days, beginning July 4th, witness the oldest
paid rodeo in the world, during our celebration of Independence. The Old
Timer’s Rodeo Grounds are located south of Lander on Buena Vista Drive. Fireworks
are on display at the Rodeo Grounds after night fall.
