The Lander
Children's Museum gives kids of all ages a chance to explore the
wonders of the world around them. Open on Saturdays
during the
winter and Tuesday and Thursday in the summer, the museum provides
educational entertainment for toddlers on up. Your kids can play
dress up, watch electricity make their hair stand on end, experiment
with magnets, explore the solar system, drive a fire engine and much
more. It's a perfect way to spend a few hours on a hot summer day.
Look for special activities as well. Hours are 10-4 at 445 Lincoln
Avenue.
One Shot - Evans/Dahl Memorial Museum

interested in Lander's One Shot Antelope Hunt a historic hunt that
draws celebrity sportsmen from around the country to try
to drop a pronghorn with a single bullet-the One Shot Evans/Dahl
Museum at 545 Main Street provides an interesting combination of
information about pronghorn and history of the One Shot Hunt. The
museum is open 10-5 Monday through Saturday during the summer. Call

The Sinks Canyon State
Park Visitors center is open seven days a week 9 a.m. to
7 p.m. Memorial Day weekend through
Labor Day
weekend.
There are displays about the ecology, wildlife, and the history
of Sinks Canyon including interactive displays and a "kids corner." "The
Raptor tree," glacial geology, mounts of bison, elk,
deer and bighorn sheep are some of the displays located in
the visitors
center.
Short interpretive hikes are available around the center.

The Forest Service Visitor Center has a small display exploring
the natural and human history of the Shoshone National Forest.
It also
has an extensive bookstore featuring books on geology, birds, plants,
animals, and people. The Forest Service Visitor's Center is open
8-4:30 weekdays at 333 East Main Street.

In Lander, you can drop by the Wyoming Game and Fish Headquarters
at 260 Buena Vista to see their wildlife exhibit. The exhibit
features a number of dioramas of Wind River Country life zones
ranging from
the subalpine forests where elk and bear live to the sagebrush
steppe where the antelope roam. Hands-on exhibits of bones, antlers
and
fur keep kids entertained. The Game and Fish Department is open
8-5 weekdays and can be reached at 307-332-2688.

20th-century homesteaders who brought Riverton to life in 1906
and helped
it grow to its present status as the largest commercial center

west-central
Wyoming. The museum displays artifacts that illustrate life

The Wind River Heritage Center features an extensive collection
of local wildlife mounts. Collected by Wind River Country
trapper, Jake
Korrel, the exhibit includes bison, wolves, black bears,
wolverines, mink, beaver and much more. You can also find local

American beadwork for sale in the center's gift shop. The
Heritage Center,
located at 412 East Fremont Street, is open 12-7 p.m. Tuesday

Fort Washakie is home to the Eastern Shoshone Cultural
Center, which contains displays of Shoshone artifacts, artwork,
historical
photographs,
histories of Chief Washakie and Sacajawea, and a display of maps
and treaties. A video showcases traditional dances and music, and
there is a gift shop that features authentic Shoshone beadwork and
crafts, books, tee-shirts and posters. Walking tours through historic
Fort Washakie and to the graves of the tribe's famous ancestors Chief
Washakie and Sacajawea can be arranged through the cultural center.

4:45pm Monday through Friday and offer Saturday tours by appointment.

To learn more about the Northern Arapaho tribe, take a trip south
of Riverton to the North American Indian Heritage Center at St.
Stephen's Mission near Arapaho. You can also visit the mission's
Catholic church
that is painted with colorful Native American geometric designs.
There is a gift shop for people interested in buying local Indian
crafts located next to the church. St. Stephen's Mission can be
reached at 307-856-7806. The cultural center's hours are 9-12,
1-4 Monday,
Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
